About Portmarnock Community School
Established in 1979, the school aimed to meet the second level education needs of Portmarnock. It was one of the first community schools to be built in Ireland. This type of school was new to the educational scene – a marriage between the voluntary secondary school and the vocational school. It brought together the academic bias of the secondary school with the vocational thrust of the vocational school. This led to other innovations.
The school is relatively young, particularly in comparison to some other Loreto schools; however it has established a strong academic reputation as well as a record in extra-curricular activities.
Twenty nine years is a short time to produce well known celebrities or leaders in the field of medicine, law or politics. However in each of these areas and indeed right across a range of professions including stage and screen the past pupils done the school proud.
Portmarnock Community School runs a comprehensive Adult Education programme. Furthermore, the School is committed to an educational policy that fosters the development of the whole person. They offer a wide range of courses most of which are aimed at the hobby and leisure market, as well as those focused on improving peoples employment opportunities.
So whether you want to improve your language skills, computer skills or job and career focused skills, Portmarnock have a course for you. Also, they offer a wide range of exercise based classes, music, arts and crafts, cooking / baking and courses aimed at parents / guardians.
