History
In 1991 two pioneering co-founders, Liam McCarthy (RIP) and Josephine Murphy, founded the Personal Counselling Institute (now PCI College). During this time the topic of mental health was not as prevalent in Ireland as it is today. However, Liam and Josephine believed passionately in both personal development and high academic standards. As a result, they combined with the foundation of the Personal Counselling Institute.
PCI College was set up with the intention of providing students with a broad education in counselling and psychotherapy. and in 2001 the college became a collaborative partner of Middlesex University, who validate, quality assure and award our Advanced Diploma in Supervision and our BSc (Honours) Counselling & Psychotherapy programmes.
Method
The programmes are characterised by an integrative, person-centred, approach to counselling & psychotherapy training. Therefore, students are introduced to all the main theorists and have the opportunity to delve into important topics. Most noteworthy, Abnormal Psychology, Loss & Grief and Substance Addictions.
Furthermore, PCI College continues to raise awareness of issues like depression, anxiety, suicide, addictions and more.
