Exciting times for BA in Social Care applicants Written by educationexpo on July 29, 2019

BA in Social Care

The OTC (Open Training College) was delighted to accommodate 30 new applicants at our recent BA Social Care course interview and information event on July 19th. Applicants were eager to attend and asked all the right questions in relation to social care, registration and CORU.

Meeting all the new applicants is always an inspiring time. Applicants are coming from many walks of life – some are already working in the social care sector and want to upskill; and some are yet to start working in the sector. People keen on becoming social care workers are stepping up and realising that an investment in their education is now required in order to boost their career choices into the future, and the OTC is providing a good starting point.

Conor Murray, Corporate Services Manager, explains the challenges for students:

“It is a time of transition in social care as the professionalisation of the area is fast moving to realisation with CORU. Students don’t want to wait any longer and are now signing up for our BA in Social Care in order to complete the course and the required work placements in Year 2 and Year 3, before the register opens.”

The course is delivered through an innovative, award winning blended learning (classroom attendance and elearning) which allows flexibility to students needing to balance work, study and family commitments. (Click here for more details on the learning model).

The BA in Social Care course is validated by QQI and graduates of the course will possess a broad Level 7 qualification allowing them opportunities to work in a wide of social care services including disability,  children’s services, migrants, the travelling community and homelessness. The programme is in the process of making an application for approval by CORU.

The OTC has delivered third level training and educational programmes to the health sector for over 27 years. More information on the OTC can be viewed here. Applications are still being received for informal interviews scheduled for September 9th. Contact Conor if you require any further information. Tel: 01-2990580 or cmurray@opentrainingcollege.com
